OREGO-STIM SUPPORTS EFFICIENT LIFETIME EGG PRODUCTION

- In this trial, hens fed Orego-Stim from 43 weeks of age for a 15-week period, had improved egg production, better feed conversion efficiency and produced fewer dirty eggs.

BACKGROUND
- Greater persistency of lay and the ability to produce a good number of eggs of good quality may result in both economic and environmental benefits in commercial production systems.
- Natural oregano essential oil (OEO) has many properties, including antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory functions.
- Orego-Stim Powder (OSP) is a high quality eubiotic composed of 100% natural OEO. It has been shown in previous university and commercial trials to successfully improve egg production parameters.
TRIAL DESIGN
A trial was conducted with the Centre for Applied Research in Avian Nutrition (CIANA), Mexico (2021), to determine the effect of supplementing OSP on the productivity of commercial laying hens after 43 weeks of age. 320 Lohmann Lite hens at 43 weeks of age were randomly assigned to one of two groups, each with 8 replicates of 20 hens: control (basal diet only) or OSP (basal diet + 300g/t OSP), for a 15-week trial period. Hens were housed in a natural environment in California type cages in a pyramidal shape of two levels, with 5 birds per cage.

Hens fed diets supplemented with Orego-Stim Powder:
- Demonstrated a significant increase in average egg production by 1.7% compared to the control group (p<0.05) and a greater persistency of lay (Figure 1).
- Produced significantly fewer dirty eggs compared to the control group (Figure 2).
- Produced an extra 61g of egg mass and 1.6 extra whole eggs per hen on average.
- Achieved a 2-point improvement in feed conversion.
- Produced 0.03% fewer broken eggs.
