Orego-Stim® Helps Maintain Persistence of Lay

SUMMARY

  • The modern layer bird has the potential to be high performing which is indicative of a healthy gut.
  • Layers fed Orego-Stim had a 5.8% increase in saleable eggs (up to 72 week of lay) compared with the control.
  • Extending the productive lifetime of laying hens can have a large benefit to the bottom line, ROI calculated as 80p per hen per day.

BACKGROUND

Small increases in the daily performance of laying birds can have large benefits over the whole laying period. Extending the productive lifetime of laying hens can have a large benefit to the bottom line ROI calculated as 80p per hen per day.

TRIAL DESIGN

Anpario had conducted a commercial study with ISA Brown layer hens at 67 weeks of age. 6,529 hens were divided into two groups and either fed the basal control diet or with 250g/MT Orego-Stim following a two week adaptation period. The group with the lowest production was chosen to be the Orego-Stim group with 68.5% compared to the control group of 74.4% daily production performance respectively. Daily egg production was monitored for 5 weeks with Orego-Stim being fed from 69 to 71 weeks.

RESULTS

  • During both the two week feeding period and the week following this, birds from the Orego-Stim group were able to match, and outperform, the control group, with an increased number of saleable eggs resulting in a final average performance 5.8% higher than the control.
  • Orego-Stim can help to maintain persistence of lay when fed at 250g/MT.
